This role will either support the Sales team or the Marketing Team depending on the candidate.
Key brands are Kenco, Tassimo, L’OR and Douwe Egberts. The Unit Control team is responsible for business partnering and decision-making support to the Commercial business. The team comprises 5 roles and the general split of responsibilities is two roles supporting the Sales team, two supporting the Marketing team and one responsible for Logistics and Overhead costs but with significant overlap between areas.

The Unit Controller prepares, provides and analyses financial management information which supports the decision-making process of the department.
Sales - Business Partnering Support:
- The role will business partner a number of customers. Working with the Sales team and Revenue Planning team, this role will:
- Provide decision making support for commercial decisions to improve company performance – sales, profit and cash – both on a strategic – e.g., annual joint business plans – and daily basis
- Attend, contribute, and challenge within standard meetings – commercial reviews etc
- Ensuring results are accurately recorded and forecasted – e.g., all risks and opportunities captured in forecasts, pricing is accurate, trade spend is accruing accurately, promotional accruals monitored, rebates accurately paid out, sense check of COGS etc.
Sales - Reporting and Analysis
- The role will also support activities across all customers to ensure accurate reporting. These could include:
- Summaries of Actual and Forecast performance – by brand, customer etc. with focus on volume, pricing and mix analysis and GP/kg management
- Producing Management Reporting Decks (MRDs) – monthly and ad hoc
- Accurate and informative Daily Sales reporting
- Updating Global JDE pricing information – e/g., quarterly sales/kg for top products
- Consolidating total business forecast down to net profit
- Summarizing total accruals and balance sheet position on trade promotions
- Ad hoc analysis of issues identified in results to improve performance
Sales - Other responsibilities
- Work with other finance and non-finance departments on cross-functional issues – e.g.,
- Revenue Planning to ensure consistent messages to Sales team and no duplication of workload
- Marketing Finance on ensuring new products are accurately forecasted
- Accounts Receivable team to maximize cashflow
- Finance Excellence Centre – balance sheet reconciliations etc.
- Logistics and Manufacturing teams to ensure cross-company best for business decisions are being made
- Fulfil any compliance obligations of the role – controls, audit etc
- Ensure systems are running effectively to manage trade promotions and total business performance – e.g., Xtel, TAS, SAP
- Understand the legal and ethical compliance requirement of the position – e.g., reporting that reflects true performance
- Provide cover for the other Sales controller
Marketing – Business Partnering Support
- The role will partner various categories and will work with the Marketing team:
- Supporting New Product Development requests – ensuring robust assumptions are applied to all Profit and Loss inputs – including liaising with local Marketing and Sales teams and central Costing and Research and Development teams
- Support other Marketing led initiatives that will improve business performance – specific campaigns, channel initiatives, translating market data into JDE P&L etc.
Marketing – Reporting and Analysis
- Analysis of commodity and foreign exchange trends to understand the impact on Cost of Goods Sold for the business
- Assist in producing the Annual Operating Plan – and longer term 5-year plans - including building in market, innovation, and pricing assumptions
- Contribute to standard Group presentations – Monthly Review Deck etc.
Marketing – Other responsibilities
- Responsibility for Advertising and Promotion budget liaising with brand managers to ensure spend is efficiently controlled
